Rita L. Kittel, 86, a long-time resident of White Creek, NY, died peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness.
Born in White Creek on August 15, 1934 Rita was the daughter of the late Adjutor and Bertha (Monroe) Betit. She received her education in the White Creek school.
Rita was employed for over 30 years at the Union Carbide/Energizer plant in Bennington until the time of her retirement.
Rita was a very active member of the White Creek community for many years. She was a long-time member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad and was a EMT Trainer for Rensselaer County for several years. She was also an active member of the White Creek Fire Department and was the administrator of Rosewood Cemetery for many years. In addition, she was also a member of the Women of the Moose in Bennington.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter, Gerald A. (Linda) Harrington and Christopher (Mary Lou) Harrington of Eagle Bridge, Dale (Ceil) Harrington of Walloomsac and Laurie (Bryan) Griffith of Bennington; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia (Robert) Ellis of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was predeceased by a great-grandson, two sisters and four brothers.
Burial will take place in the family lot at Rosewood Cemetery, White Creek, on Thursday, August 27. 2020 at 11:00 a.m. where services will be offered by Pastor Jonathan Youngman, pastor of the Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be in effect.
