BENNINGTON- Richard Arthur Morse Sr. 90, a resident of Bennington, Vermont passed away on March 9th, 2022, following a brief illness.
Born on April 13th, 1931, in Bennington, VT. He was the son of the late Ronald and Marion (Jepson) Morse. Richard received his early education in the Bennington area schools and later graduated from Bennington High School. Shortly after his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for over 22 years during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He served as a Radarman on many cruisers, destroyers, aircraft carriers, and battle ships, to name a few: USS Wasp, USS Bennington, USS Forrestal (Super carrier). He also served 8 years as a reserve totaling 30 years of service to his country. After retiring from the navy, he worked for the Union Carbide manufacturing company in Bennington for over 17 years.
On August 10th, 1963, Richard married the former Joan Etta Rogers at her parent's home in Bennington.
The most important thing in Richard's life was his family. His children, grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren were the lights of his life. Richard also enjoyed car rides, swimming, Notre Dame Football, playing guitar and listening to LOUD music. He loved teaching his family and friends how to play guitar, chess, baseball, football, and many other games. This was often so he could have another person to play with, as he was quite competitive. Do not let his spirit of competition fool you, he was a kind, relaxed and generous family man who was loved and will be missed by all.
Survivors of Richard include his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Joan Morse. Their son; Richard Morse Jr. and his wife Kimberly (Thompson) Morse. Daughters; Sandra Morse and her husband David Howe of Bennington, and Sindy Schaad and her husband Perry Schaad of Hoosick, New York. His sisters; Barbara Sweet of West Arlington, Vermont, Shirley Baker of Tocca, Georgia, Joyce Croteau of Bennington, and Eileen Olszewski of Estero, Florida. As well as a brother; Fred Gilbar of Bennington. Richard is also survived by six grandchildren: Lindsay Martin, Tyson Morse, Erin Brady, Jade Morse, Kayla Morse, Jessalyn Brady. Ten great grandchildren; Anna Parmenter, Alexis Morse, Michael Mabee, Mathew Mabee, Kenley Morse, Olivia Berg, Tripp Sloan, Ember Sloan, Meadow Mabee, Liam Marcoux, one more on the way and many nieces and nephews.
At this time, there will be no public services for Richard.
