Lisa Marie Peterson

March 28, 1958 — January 6, 2023

Lisa Marie Peterson, 64, a resident of East Road in Shaftsbury, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 6, 2023. She was born in Bristol, Connecticut, on March 28, 1958, to William and Pauline (Kiriluk) Pratt. She was the older sister to William Pratt (Bristol, CT) and Michele (Pratt) Gnazzo (Farmington, CT). She attended Bristol Central High School, class of 1976, and went on to received her associate's degree from Mattatuck Community College. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Travelers Insurance Company for almost 10 years. She met her lifelong love, Richard Peterson, when she asked him to borrow pencils from his school supplies in middle school. They married in Bristol, CT on May 9, 1980, and celebrated 43 years of marriage this past year. They enjoyed spending time together and could always make each other laugh. Lisa could make anything grow. She had a green thumb, and was often found in her garden in the summer or growing a wide variety of plants in the house during the winter. She had many pets over the years but loved taking care of her fish best of all. Lisa homeschooled all four of her children through various grades, and was a local substitute teacher for many years afterward. Lisa loved her family unconditionally and found great joy in being a wife, mother, and grandmother at home. Knitting, crocheting and cooking were Lisa’s passions. She generously gifted hand-made shawls, baby blankets, afghans, mittens and hats to her family and friends over the years. She loved to cook, often using produce from her own gardens. She was known for her pickled cucumbers, green beans, chili, fresh salsa, and chocolate birthday cakes. Lisa was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Richard Peterson, of Bennington; her daughter, Rachel Peterson of Troy, New York; son and daughter-in-law Eric & Lyndsey Peterson of Bennington; and son Jack Peterson of the US Air Force, stationed in Italy. She was the proud grandmother of Blake and Madalynn Peterson, and Cassidy and Christa Van Vleck of Bennington. Lisa was predeceased by her youngest son, David Peterson, in 2020. Lisa leaves sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many cousins and friends with wonderful and loving memories of special times. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT, on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the North Pownal Congregational Church, 3554 VT-346 North Pownal, Vermont on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lisa M.
