BENNINGTON
Dr. Jeffrey William Munson, DDS, 83, passed away after a courageous fight with cancer on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He was able to keep the doctors and nurses laughing until the end.
He was born on September 8, 1938 in New York City to the late Albert W. Munson and Ruth Stewart Munson. He was raised in Rockland County, N Y.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Darlene Munson, of Bennington, VT. He is also survived by his brother, Donald A. Munson (Mary Alice) of Chestertown, MD, a niece, Elizabeth Steward Davis of Columbia, S.C. a nephew, Brandon Jeffrey Munson of Monkton, MD, a step-daughter, Melissa Kamp of Wynantskill, NY.
Jeff graduated from Colgate University in 1960 where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry in 1964. He practiced dentistry with his father from 1964 until 1967. He then moved to Brattleboro, VT where he practiced dentistry from 1967 until his retirement in 2015.
Jeff was a member of the Old First Church in Bennington. He was a lifelong hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. At the age of 14 he was the U. S. Amateur Trap Shooting Champion of the New York Athletic Club. He was a past president of Ducks Unlimited in Brattleboro. He was an avid collector of decoys and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.
From an early age, Jeff took pleasure in sport cars. In his later life he was able to race his Ferrari at Lime Rock Park Racing Circuit in Connecticut.
Along with their home in Bennington, he and Darlene spent happy times at their camp in the Adirondacks and their vacation home on the coast of Maine.
Family and friends are invited to a service of remembrance to be held at the Old First Church on Monument Avenue in Bennington on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
A celebration of life will follow at the Mount Anthony Country Club.
