James M. Matheson

August 9, 1986 — September 9, 2019

James M. Matheson, 33, a resident of Duffy Drive in Bennington, Vermont made his final journey home on Monday September 9, 2019 at his residence with his loving family by his side following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Bennington, Vermont August 9, 1986. He is the son of Michael J. and Judith A. (Deranian) Matheson. James received his education in Bennington and graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School in 2005.

For several years, James worked at Cushman Landscaping. He most recently was employed at Jerome Construction in Bennington.

James loved the outdoors. James also enjoyed playing baseball. He was a member of the Mount Anthony Varsity Baseball team and also played for the American Legion Post 13 team. James most recently enjoyed playing golf and men's softball. James will be greatly missed for his caring ways and his loving smile.

Survivors include his parents, Michael and Judy Matheson of Bennington. A brother Neil Matheson and his girlfriend Kristina Wilkinson of Bennington. His uncles and aunts, George Deranian of Groveland, MA, Debbie Boyce of Haverhill, MA, Tracy Linskey of Fitchburg, MA, Pamela Carey of Haverhill, MA, Ricky Matheson of Weedsport, NY and Tammy Root of Florida along with many cousins

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday September 14, at 12:00 pm.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of James Matheson may be made to Cancer Center Community Crusaders through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. Guest book condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and love that James received at the Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center, Bayada Hospice, Brigham and Woman's Hospital, and Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston.
