Gerald E. "Jerry" Watson, died peacefully on January 4th, 2017 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren.
Jerry was born in Bennington, Vermont on December 23rd, 1938 to James H. and Freda (Crawford) Watson. He attended local schools.
Jerry had an uncanny and natural ability with anything mechanical. He is best known for his years of employment as Production Manager with the Eagle Publishing Group (Bennington Banner). He took great pride in keeping the presses churning. Later in his career, he owned and operated a local machine shop and sheet metal fabrication company, New England Graphic Machine and Engineering. He loved to talk about his work and restoration of many local landmarks. The windmill atop the Old First Church, the two Dalmatian dog statues at the Bennington Museum and the USS Bennington ships bell at the Town of Bennington Office Park.
In earlier years, Jerry could be found fly fishing on his favorite Walloomsac River (although the size and quantity of his catch requires scrutiny), ice fishing on Harriman Reservoir (same scrutiny applies) or hunting deer (allegedly) out of his camp on East Mountain. He loved the forests, fields and streams of his Vermont home.
Later in life he took pride in sharing his knowledge of fishing, hunting, shooting and all things mechanical with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his three children, Bruce F. Watson and his wife Janet of Bennington, Vermont, Kimberley Miller and her husband Keith of Bennington, Vermont and Christine Giorgio and her husband Michael of Middlebury, Vermont. Jerry also leaves behind his cherished and adored grandchildren (Angela, Jeremy, Samantha, Tre and Alex) and great grandchildren that always made him smile. Additionally, his dear friends Peter Percey, Mike Reynolds and Dale Seline. Jerry was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Kay Frances Watson, who passed away in 2009.
