Francis A. Paturzo (88), of Shaftsbury, passed away peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on the morning of February 13, 2018. Born on December 3rd, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, Frank was the son of Anthony and Anna (Germann) Paturzo and the younger brother of Marie (Kaba) and Rose (Reardon). He was the husband of Janet D. (Wollheim) Paturzo, the love of his life, who he met on a blind date in 1950, wed in 1952 and with whom he shared a daughter, Lisa, and fifty years of marriage before her death in 2002.
Prior to retirement and relocation to Vermont, Frank resided on Long Island and lived in Williston Park, Mineola, and Hicksville, NY. He was a graduate of Mineola High School and served as a Williston Park Fire Fighter (1946-1951) and a U.S. Naval Reservist stationed out of Whitestone, NY (1946-1948).

Following his service to our country, Frank was employed at Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation in Bethpage, NY. He worked there for seven years before joining the Nassau County Police Department in 1959 and returning to his true vocation, to serve and protect. Over the course of his 26 years as a Nassau County Police Officer (September 1, 1959 " March 5, 1985), Frank served on the Security Detail for every President from John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, and during the New York Islanders' celebration parade in the early 80's, provided Security Detail for the Stanley Cup.
After his career in law enforcement, Frank enjoyed retirement in Shaftsbury, Vermont and continued to serve his community as a member of the Norshaft Lions Club (1987-2018). He generously volunteered his time, attended Lions conferences (with Janet) and held various club offices. In 1994, he was honored as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship and he served as the club's President in 1995-1996.
Frank's hobbies were stamp collecting, coin collecting and woodworking. His joy was spending time with family and friends - including those of the four-legged variety. In particular, he cherished the decade shared with his faithful companion Sophie (1998-2008).
