NORTH POWNAL
Ethel Viola Bourn, 98, a resident of Bennington and a former long-time resident of North Pownal, died Friday, April 23 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness.
Born in Hookset, NH on October 9, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Gladys (Shelley) DeBell. Ethel received her education in Vermont schools.
She married Raymond Bourn on September 4, 1939 at the Methodist church in Weston, VT. Mr. Bourn died January 9, 2001.
In earlier years Ethel was employed at the Polygraphic Company in North Bennington and for 24 years prior to her retirement worked at Mack Molding in Arlington. She was also active in the family's business, Ray's Burner Service.
Ethel had been a member of the North Pownal Congregational Church for over 44 years. Her interests in addition to her family and church were camping and traveling. She enjoyed reading and always encouraged her grandchildren to read. In earlier years she enjoyed horseback riding and going to square dances.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Alan Lloyd of Hebron, NY; a granddaughter, Debbie (Chip) Tifft of North Pownal who was raised by Ethel and Raymond; six other grandchildren, Barbara Bourn (Matt) of Port Jarvis, NY, Tim Lloyd (Cindy) and Eric Lloyd (Judy), both of Hebron, NY, LeRoy Bourn (Amelia) of Pownal, Rodney Bourn of Hoosick Falls, NY and Joshua Bourn of Bennington along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ethel was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Bourn and two sons, Harold and Leon (Ted) Bourn and by three siblings, Madeline DeBell, Marion DeBell and Herbert DeBell.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery.
