Catharine Beth Mclean

May 4, 1977 — November 1, 2022

Catharine “Beth” McLean, 45, a resident of Shaftsbury, Vermont passed away peacefully on November 1, 2022 after a short but fierce battle with cancer. She was born in Orlando, Florida on May 4th, 1977 to Sue Cartwright and Paul McLean. Beth graduated from Mount Anthony Union Schools, in the Class of 1995 and then attended Southern Vermont College. She was passionate about being a small business leader in the Bennington and Williamstown communities at Nature’s Closet, and was so proud to eventually become co-owner of the business. Beth’s life played to a never-ending soundtrack of DMB, 90s hip-hop, Alan Jackson, and seemingly every other song that was ever written. Her adventures took her often to mountain and lake havens, and when she was home she was likely outside with a fire roaring, a glass of wine in her hand, and music playing. Many of her most cherished memories were of road trips with her daughter, Carleigh. She had a love for travel, history and the arts, and she lived to share the whole world with Carleigh. Among other service roles, Beth was the PTG President at Pine Cobble School and a member of the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She was an advocate for many local businesses and individuals. Whomever needed a voice, Beth was there for them. Beth is survived by her daughter, Carleigh McLean, of Shaftsbury, VT, her parents, Sue and Lawrence Mattison, of Shaftsbury, VT, and her true love, Kevin Breese, of Shaftsbury, VT. Beth is also survived by her two dogs, Willy and Basil, whom she loved dearly. She leaves behind countless friends across the many eras of her life. A graveside service for Beth will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, November 12th at 9am. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in honor of Beth may be made to Pine Cobble School in Williamstown through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. Her friends are invited to share their favorite memories of Beth in the online guestbook. Guestbook condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net
