Yvonne M. LaFlamme, aka "Gaggy", 104, a longtime resident of Bennington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at her home in Bennington surrounded by her family
Born in Amherst, MA on May 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Branchaud) Lalumiere. Yvonne received her education at St. Bridget's School, in Holyoke, MA, Sacred Heart School in Bennington and St. Joseph Business College in Bennington.
She married Walter J. LaFlamme on August 30, 1941 at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. Mr. LaFlamme died November 12, 1970.
In earlier years Yvonne was employed at both BenMont Paper Company and later at Tansitor Electronics in Bennington. Her last employment was at The Pharmacy in Bennington where she worked until the time of her retirement.
Yvonne's free time was spent doing various crafts, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Each Christmas she spent most of her time baking her famous "Gaggy Christmas Cookies". They were the most sought after cookie each year. She once authored her own cook book which has become a family treasure.
Yvonne was also known for her Scrabble skills. The Queen of Scrabble was known to still win a game or two at 104 years old.
If there was one thing that carried her throughout the years it was her faith. She firmly believed in the power of prayer.
Her gratitude for life and her family shined each day and she was most thankful to be cared for by her family which allowed her to stay in her home.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Reeves of Bemidji, Minnesota; a daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Terry Granger of Bennington; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Gerrie LaFlamme of Bennington; thirteen grandchildren, Laurie, Jeff, Lisa, Jody, Kathy Tracy, Missy, Donna, Todd, Jamie, Aaron, Stevie and Eric; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Yvonne was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Harrington; two sons, Thomas LaFlamme and Ricky LaFlamme; a grandson, Paul Harrington and three sisters, Marguerite Leonard, Antoinette Houran and Augustine Avila.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, November 1, 2021 at 12:00 noon with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 12:30 p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
