William Henry Volkmer Iii

March 28, 1959 — September 28, 2016

Mr. William Henry Volkmer, 57, a resident of Anthony Drive in Bennington passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 28, 2016 knowing that he was surrounded by much love and strength from his family friends

William was born in Bennington, Vermont on March 28, 1959 to Kenneth Gemmell and Bernadette (Marcoux) Gemmell. He received his education at Saint Francis de Sales Academy and Mount Anthony Union High School.

Bill was always fascinated by carpentry and learned his trade from John Chapman, who was a contractor in the Williamstown area. He worked on many homes for John where he was able to learn his trade and eventually start his own business which he owned and operated for over 25 years. Bill cherished the many friendships he made over that period of time. Bill met Starr Sweet in the Fall of 1984 and married on April 13, 1985. They later had four sons, Kenneth (Lenora Peaslee), Charles ( his fiancé,Courtney LaFlamme) and Paul and Mark Volkmer. Bill also has four siblings; three sisters, Gloria (Jim Beraldi), Kathy (Richard Hanson, Damn Yankee fan), Pauline (Gary Garofano) and a brother Chuck Forrest (Kim).

Bill was a very devoted father to his four sons and wife. They were his life. They went to many events, dad would always lead the way. Then it would be the four boys and mom would follow. People that knew them would say here's the Volkmer family. Bill loved to do many things but his passion was to get his family together for holiday meals, cookouts, theatre, sporting events and any function that would bring them all together. Bill loved his four sons and his siblings very much. He often bragged to his sons about his siblings. He talked about their education, careers and how they raised their families. Bill needed to thank so many people but didn't have enough paper or time. Bill needs to mention Steve Rucker NP, Becky Andrews from BAYADA, all the doctors at SWVMC, Hannah Hill, the nurse and nursing assistants, cafeteria staff and everyone at the SWVMC that made his stay more comfortable. His friends also had a big part in making Bill smile. These people were his life and he wants to say thank you to everyone who was a big part of that.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday October 1, at 10:30 a.m with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

The burial will follow in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
