William "Bill" Pitt Montgomery, age 76, a former longtime resident of Shaftsbury and more recently of Palm Bay, FL passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 28, 2016, while visiting family in the Bennington area. Bill was born on July 9, 1940 in Bennington, to the late George and Marion (Wright) Montgomery.
Bill was a veteran of the US Air Force, a life member of the Elks Lodge 567 in Bennington and American Legion Post #13 of Bennington. He worked at Tansitor Electronics, Sprague Electric and Vishay, as an engineer until his retirement.
He loved to hunt, go to camp, watch NASCAR with the guys and especially spending time with family. Bill will be remembered for his always kind and gentle spirit.
Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Joan (Thompson) Montgomery, of Florida, a sister Jane Montgomery and her husband Lee Watters of Shaftsbury, VT.
He leaves Joan's children, and his best friends; Mike Lewis (Deborah) and Gary Lewis (Kitty) all of Pownal, VT, and Joanne Poirier (Mike) of Kinston, NC.
Bill was the best "Pop" to eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
Friends may call at Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington on Wednesday, August 31 from 12:00PM until 2:00PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the Shaftsbury Village Cemetery in Shaftsbury, VT.
