SHAFTSBURY
William "Bill" Joly, a resident of VT Route 7A, Shaftsbury, died peacefully on Friday, his 65th birthday, at his home following a long illness.
Born in Bennington on January 17, 1955, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Ruth (Vien) Joly. He received his education the Bennington schools and was a 1973 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School.
Bill married the former Wendy Morse on July 2, 2011 in Shaftsbury.
Bill was a self-employed carpenter for many years and later was the manager of the Weatherization Program at BROC. His last employment was at William E. Dailey Co. in Shaftsbury. A perfectionist at his trade, Bill, after losing both his legs to a medical condition, worked along with his sons building a handicapped ramp at the family home.
Bill was a former member of the Bennington County Sheriff's Department and also at one time was a member of the Vermont State Police Auxiliary. In earlier years he was a Vermont State Champion archer and also practiced Tae Kwon Do.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Joly of Shaftsbury; eleven children and their spouses, William Joly of Arlington, Richie (Sara) Joly of Jamestown, NY, Willard Morse of Bennington, Michael and Jordan Brown, Deigan Morse and Frank Ruggles, all of Shaftsbury, Trish (Chad) Raetz of Terryville, CT, Kathleen (James) Niles of Bennington and Karrianna Joly of Shaftsbury; ten grandchildren, Millard, Tyler, Lindsey, Ciarra, John, Brandon, Peyton, Cole, Alyssa and William; his former wife, Denise Wells of Petersburgh, NY and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects to Bill's family on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the North Bennington Fire House for a time of sharing and remembrance.
