William H. Gygax

William H. Gygax, 75, of Booth Terrace, Bennington, died Tuesday October 26, 2021 at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation after a long illness.

Born in Bennington on October 9, 1946, he was the son of The late John and Jane (Barber) Gygax.

Bill received his education in the local schools and was a 1964 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School.

Bill was a self-employed painter throughout his life. He was well known for his meticulous work and took pride in his finished projects.

Bill loved to be outdoors. He was an excellent gardner and would spend hours making his yard beautiful. He loved animals and nurtured many stray cats over the years. Bill's laugh was infectious and those closest to him remember him for his generosity and willingness to help others.

Survivors include his companion of 44 years, Jill A. Hurley of Bennington, a son Jeffrey J. Gygax of Washington D.C, Jill's children and their spouses, Dean Hurley (Terri), Darin Hurley(Abigail) and Kimberly Webster (Tom) as well as her grandchildren Cole Webster, Evan Webster and Brianna Hurley. Bill was predeceased by Jill's granddaughter Shae Webster. A memorial garden was created by Bill for her in 1999.

At Bill's request, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
