POWNAL- William Edward Darling, 75, a resident of Pownal, Vermont, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 17, 2022 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness. Born on May 19th, 1947, in North Adams, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Delbert Darling Sr. and Dorothy (Osborn) Darling. Bill was raised in North Adams and attended Drury High School where he was a co-captain of the Varsity Football team. Bill had a variety of jobs over the years. He first became a Milk Man for Burdick’s Dairy farm. This job was Bill’s favorite, as it gave him a very interesting view on family life in a small town. He was trusted by his customers to enter thier homes and put the milk in their refrigerator for them. He enjoyed having fun playing ball and would often stop on his route to do so with local kids. Bill also worked as a carpenter in Florida and Vermont for nearly 30 years. He then permanently returned to Vermont to work for his son Michael’s Dairy Farm. He continued to work at the farm as long as he was able, and worked for North Eastern Wood Products for a few years until his retirement. Above all, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends- especially riding Atvs with the late Butch Darling, and going to Lebanon Valley Speedway with the late Richard Bisson. In recent years, Bill had admitted that his grandchildren and great grandchildren had been his favorite way to spend his time. He also enjoyed playing cards and going hunting and fishing, as well as watching NASCAR, The Boston Red Sox, and The New England Patriots. Bill was also a member of the North Pownal Congregational Church. Survivors include; his children, Michael Darling (Becky) of Pownal, John Darling (Emily) of Arlington, VT and Carrie Pause (Jason) of Hancock, MA. His grandchildren; Brad, Hannah, Damon, and Addison, as well as his great grandchildren; Blake, Sawyer, and Logan. Bill also had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a close friend, Stewart Park.
