William B. Center Jr., 87, a resident of North Clarendon, VT died Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Rutland Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Bennington on September 24, 1933, he was the son of the late William B. Center Sr. and Blanche (Kivler) Center. Bill received his education in the Shaftsbury and North Bennington schools and was a graduate of North Bennington High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In earlier years Bill was employed at the former Polygraphic company in North Bennington for 25 years. He later worked at the William E. Dailey Company in Shaftsbury, the Sears store in Rutland and his last employment prior to retirement was with Walmart in Rutland where he worked as an assembler.
Bill was a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington, and both the Teamsters Union and Lithographers Union in earlier years. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed raising his beef cattle, hunting, fishing and was an avid fan of NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Ezzo) Center of North Clarendon; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela S. and William P. Sargent of Springfield, VT; a son and daughter-in-law, William L. and Diana L. Center of Bennington; five grandchildren, Hannah M. Hill, Colby W. Hill and his fiancé, Marybeth Merriam, Danica A. G. Hill, Molly S. Center and Liam P. Center; three great-grandchildren, Taylor R. Hill, Colby B. Hill and Ethan E. Cross; a sister, Leona Center of Cambridge, NY and two brothers, Carleton (Ellen) Center of Fairview, NJ and Nelson Center of Guilderland, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery following the funeral.
