Wilfred F. LaBonte, 90, a resident of Northwest Hill Road in Pownal, died on Thursday, March 25, 2021, following a long illness.
He was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on June 12, 1930 and was the son of the late Telesphore and Viola (Perras) LaBonte. He married the former Eleanor M. DuBois on October 14, 1950 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in North Adams, Massachusetts. Mrs. LaBonte predeceased him on August 18, 2018. Wilfed retired from The General Cable Company in Pownal after forty-five years of service. Following his retirement, Wilfred was employed at the Carmelite Monastery in the Buildings and Grounds Department, and had been employed for Art Carlucci Construction Company in Shaftsbury, Vermont.
Wilfred was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed traveling, and playing the harmonica. He is a Past Assistant Fire Chief in the Pownal Protective Fire Department. He was a very active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Pownal.
Wilfred is survived by three children: Steven LaBonte, Naples, Florida, Marie Baker of Bennington, Vermont and Andrew and (Wendy) LaBonte of Milford, New Hampshire. He leaves seven grandsons and one granddaughter, as well as eight great grandchildren. Wilfred is survived by one brother-in-law: Rene DuBois of Prospect, Maine and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by all his brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 31, at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Interment will follow in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal, Vermont. There will not be any calling hours scheduled.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA and Hospice of Southwestern Vermont or to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, Vermont.
