Virginia Ann (Stratton) Berard, 83, a resident of Burgess Road in Bennington went on her final journey on Sept. 19, 2016. She passed away at home surrounded by her family.
Ginny as she preferred to be called was born on February 7, 1933. The eldest of Robert and Esther (Cone) Stratton. She attended the Burgess School, a one room school house on Burgess Road.
Ginny married the love of her life William F. "Bill" Berard on February 26, 1949. Together they enjoyed 65 years of marriage prior to Bill passing on July 5, 2014
Ginny had a variety of jobs throughout her life. She worked at Warren Wire (General Cable), Union Carbide and retired from the Coffee Shop at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in 1998.
Ginny loved to shop, go to tag sales, playing cards, knitting and crocheting. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially around the holidays
Ginny is survived by her children, son Steve Berard and his wife Dawn of Saint Johnsbury, VT, daughter Jean Berard of Bennington, daughter, Susie Sanders and her husband Roy of Ellisville Mississippi, son Tom Berard and his wife Bonnie of Bennington, daughter Esther McGarvin of Bennington, son Mike Berard and his wife Kim of Bennington, daughter Debbie Berard of Bennington and daughter Becky Legacy and her husband Shawn of Shaftsbury; A brother Bobby Stratton and a sister Marlene Stratton. She leaves 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, a daughter Cathy, sons Bill and Joey and granddaughters, Kristi and Jody and her siblings Helen, Ellen, Herby, Don, Ron and Mark
The funeral will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday Sept. 23, at 3:00 p.m. with her grandson Bishop Damian Legacy, CSC officiating
The burial will follow in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
