Viola E. Myers, 100, of Shaftsbury, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday February 2, 2024. Viola was born in Bennington, VT on August 11, 1923, the daughter of Peter and Amalia (Damilio) Pacitto. She was educated in Bennington schools and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College with a degree in Business. She married Charles W. Myers, Sr., on June 1, 1946. Viola was a very busy woman her entire life. Growing up on a farm taught her the importance of hard work. Throughout her working career she had been employed by several area businesses. When she wasn’t working, she was volunteering her time everywhere: for the Red Cross blood drives, the library, the hospital, counting votes in Shaftsbury on election day, and the historical society, to name a few. She was very active in her community. Viola was a member of the Taconic Grange, Shaftsbury Garden Club and Home Dem. She loved nature and especially flowers where there wasn’t a variety she couldn’t name. She always had children around, taking care of them whether they were her own or not. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and was thrilled to be a five-generation grandmother. Viola is survived by her children; Charles (Elaine) Myers, Jr., of Beacon Falls, CT., Anthony (Donna) Myers of Shaftsbury, VT, Kathleen (Chris) Hollis of Shaftsbury and Yolanda Barry of Shaftsbury. She is also survived by her sisters; Ida Snow, Anna Becker and Pauline Cooke, her grandchildren; Yolanda Cone, Stacy Myers, Nathan Denio and Sherry Gomez, and step-grandchildren; Hope Bowen and Lori Ann Nevins, 11 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Esther Greene, a brother, Peter Pacitto II, and 4 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
