Viola Marion Baker

Viola Marion Baker passed away peacefully in her sleep at Rivers Edge in Bennington on December 30, 2024.

Born in Potsdam, New York on June 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Clark) Birdo. She worked at Polygraphic and then 21 years at General Cable in Pownal.

She married Kenneth Baker on June 3, 1969. Mr. Baker died September 22, 1997. They loved to travel, dance and get together with friends. She enjoyed painting, crafting, gardening, crocheting, reading and puzzles. Viola was a member of the Bennington Club and President of the Shaftsbury Garden Club for several years. She enjoyed playing Bingo with the Sunshine Group in Pownal.

She was predeceased by her sister, Myrtle and four brothers, Glenn, Jon, Kenneth and Richard. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Ames and a son, John Ames who passed away in October 2024. Viola is survived by a daughter, Barbara (William) Barney of Bennington, VT, a son, James (Rita) Ames of Jesup, GA, a daughter-in-law, Donna Ames of Morris, IL, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great, great granddaughters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thanks to the caregivers at Rivers Edge Community Care Home for all their patience and love.

Services will take place at a later, to be announced, date.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Viola requested donations be made to the Second Congregational Church where she was a member and found fellowship and compassion. The donations may be made through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main Street Bennington, VT 05201.
