Truman "Fran" Leonard, 86, a resident of Peaks Pine Road in Bennington died Tuesday February 7, 2017 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
He was born in Bennington, Vermont May 2, 1930. He was the son of the late Dwight and Kate (Kelly) Leonard. He received his education in Bennington.
He married the former Lois A. Harvey on January 30, 1960 at the Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro, VT.
For many years, Fran was employed as a Pipe Fitter and had worked for several different companies in the Albany area. He was a member of the Sprinkler Fitters Union.
He enjoyed vacationing in York Beach, Maine. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his boys at their hunting camp in Peru. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giant fan.
Survivors include his wife Lois Leonard of Bennington. His children, Deborah Kinney and her husband Pat of Bennington, Wanda Robbins of North Port, Florida, Kevin Leonard and his wife Ella of Bennington and Daniel Leonard(Kim) of Pownal, VT. Six grandchildren, Patrick and Timothy Kinney, Kim Leonard, Melissa Cornell, and Jessica and Nick Leonard; along with several great grandchildren. A sister Pearl LaClaire of Rutland, VT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sisters Milly and Isabel and a brother Dwight Jr who was killed in the Korean War.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Truman will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Saturday February 18, at 2:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday from noon until the time of the service.
