Tracy E. Knights, 50, a resident of Puddingstone Road, Pownal, died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Bennington November 4, 1967, she was the daughter of the late Leonard L. Knights Sr. and the former Barbara (Eggsware) Knights who survives. Tracy received her education in the Bennington schools and was a 1985 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School. Following high school, she attended Castleton University where she received her bachelor's degree in 1989.
An outstanding athlete throughout her high school and college years, Tracy excelled in soccer, basketball and softball at Mt. Anthony and in 1989, during her senior year at Castleton, was awarded the May Ellen Evans Outstanding Athletic Award. In 1999 Tracy was inducted into the Castleton State College Athletic Hall of Fame.
For the past 30 years Tracy has been employed by the Parks and Recreation department for the Town of Bennington and was serving as director of the department at the time of her death. Tracy was very well-known and highly respected for her work at the Rec Center over the years.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose in Bennington. She enjoyed traveling with "her girlfriends" and was devoted to her two Pugs, Baxter who survives her and Tater Beene who has passed away.
Survivors include her long-time partner, Douglas Saunders of Pownal; her mother, Barbara Knights of Bennington; a brother, Leonard L. Knights Jr. of Bennington; a nephew, Samuel J. Albrycht and many aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to her father, Tracy was predeceased by a sister, Valerie Albrycht.
Funeral services for Tracy Knights will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the family lot at Woodford Cemetery.
