Tonya Wheeler

March 15, 1982 — July 10, 2016

Tonya Wheeler, 34, a resident of Merson Street, died at home on Sunday, July 10, 2016 following a long battle with diabetes.

Born in Albany, NY on March 15, 1982, she was the daughter of the late Catherine Wheeler and Danny Peters who survives. Tonya received her education in the Bennington Schools and was aa 2003 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School.

Tonya had previously been employed at Walmart in Bennington for 11 years.

She was very active in the Special Olympics for many years and had recently won a gold medal at the competition in Burlington. She also enjoyed walking, reading and all types of animals.

Survivors include her father and step-mother, Danny and Lynn Peters of Shaftsbury; her maternal grandmother, Celeste Wheeler of Hebron, NY; a half-sister and brother, Trevor and Amber of Shaftsbury; a step-grandmother, Phyllis Taylor of Bennington; aunts and uncles James and Kelly Peters of Sandgate, Barbara D. Koscinski and family of Manchester; Fred Wheeler of Hebron, NY Frances Wheeler; a step-uncle, Matthew Budro of White Creek, NY and two cousins, Jeremy Peters and Kayla Croft of Arlington.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Raymond Harrington officiating.
