Thomas F. Way, Jr. a resident of Skyboro Road, in Pownal, died on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY following a long illness.
He was born in Buskirk, NY on January 1, 1933, and was the son of the late Thomas F. and Margaret (Sawtell) Way, Sr. He received his education in local schools. Thomas served with the Army during the Korean War, and attained the rank of Sargent. In earlier years, he had been employed at Woodflong in Hoosick Falls, and started working for Union Carbide/Eveready in Bennington in 1976 and retired in 1995.
He was a good craftsman and built his own home. He loved being outdoors.
On May 27, 1983 he married the former Judy Murray, who survives.
Thomas was a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington and VFW Post #1332 of Bennington. In earlier years, Thomas had been an avid hunter, a big fan of wrestling on TV, and riding his motorcycle. His animals brought him great contentment, especially over the last couple of years.
Survivors besides his wife include: three children, Vicky (Kenneth) Ruggles of Pownal, VT, Todd (Denise) Way of Buskirk, NY and Craig (Tracy) Way of South Carolina. He has three daughters on Judith's side; Michelle (Paul) LaCroix, of Franklin, MA, Dale (Don) Gordon of Bennington, VT, and Kim (Gary) Funck of Hoosick Falls, NY. He leaves ten grandchildren, three nieces, two step-sisters; Dot (Don) Brownell and Gwen(Chuck) Waldron and his companions, Tucker, Scooter and Doc.
He is predeceased by one son, Thomas Way, III, two sisters Ramona Ropitsky and Thelma Cumo as well as his faithful buddy, Little Buck.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 11:00AM at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
