Thomas B. Schweers

September 4, 1972 — July 12, 2019

Thomas Bartley Schweers, 46, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2019, from Huntington's Disease. For the past six years, Tom lived at Crescent Manor in Bennington, Vermont, and prior to that at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford. Tom's family is grateful to the staff at both facilities for their excellent care.

Tom was born September 4, 1972 in Gretna, Louisiana, to Robert and Margaret Schweers, and grew up in Ashland, Kentucky and Clinton, Mississippi. He graduated from Clinton High School and earned a bachelor's degree in English from Millsaps College, where he met his future wife, Kay Reichenbach. He joined the Navy in 1997, and he and Kay were married on July 27, 1997. Tom served on the USS Detroit and at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida, and he and Kay enjoyed traveling the world during his time in the service. In 2002, they moved to Saint Albans, Vermont, when Tom took a position with the federal government as an Adjudication Officer for Immigration and Naturalization Services. He remained at INS until his early retirement due to declining health.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kay, and sons Lincoln and Calvin of Saint Albans, Vermont; his mother, Margaret Schweers Davis and stepfather Kim Davis of Clinton, Mississippi; sister Katy Hall and her children Rowan and Porter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Kelee Maddox (Ben) and their children Apple and Otto of Enosburg Falls, Vermont; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a vast network of friends. Tom was predeceased by his father, Robert Schweers.

Family and friends will remember Tom as a daredevil who loved life, his family, friends, and baseball. He was a devoted fan of the Louisville Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox. Above all, Tom was unfailingly courteous and considerate, and had a remarkable ability to endure his declining health with a smile on his face and a genuine sense of appreciation for life. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 10 at 1p.m. at Twiggs on Main Street in Saint Albans.
