Thomas E. Harrington Sr., 82, a resident of Charles Street, Bennington, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at his residence following a brief illness.
Born in Bennington on June 23, 1939, he was the son of the late George and Pearl (Potter) Harrington. Tom received his education in the local schools and was graduate of Bennington High School. Following high school Tom enlisted in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Fort Dix New Jersey and attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5) before getting out and joining the Army National Guard in Bennington where he was a weekend warrior for a few years.
He married Carolyn Russell at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on July 30, 1966. Carolyn died July 3, 2003.
In earlier years Tom worked at the former Super Duper grocery store as the Store Manager and Produce Manager in Bennington and later served at Produce Manager at P&C Grocery store for several years.
Tom was a member of VFW Post 1332, Elks Lodge 567 and the Bennington Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid fly-fisherman.
Survivors include two children, Dawn (Louis) Griswold of Ocoee, TN and Thomas Harrington Jr. and his partner, Regina Smith of Lisbon, Me; five grandchildren, Thomas J. Harrington (Meaghan Acker) of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Chelsey Harrington (Shane Cyr) of Lewiston, ME, Aubrey and Logan Griswold of Ocoee, TN and Cody Griswold (Kimberly) of Charlestown, SC; a sister, Leone Dusablon of Bennington; two brothers, Nick(George) and Emily Harrington of Bennington, David Harrington of Hot Springs, CO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Tom was predeceased by a sister and brother, Sandra Pinsonneault and Paul Harrington.
At Tom's request private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Waite Cemetery in Shaftsbury.
