Theodore C. Lanoue

BENNINGTON

Theodore Charles "Ted" Lanoue, 81, a resident of Willow Road in Bennington died peacefully Saturday November 18, 2017 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington, VT September 4, 1936. He was the son of the late Alphonse and Cecile (Vien) Lanoue. Ted attended Sacred Heart School, was a 1954 graduate of Bennington High School and attended Saint Joseph's Business College in Bennington.

Ted married the former Joyce Thomas at St. John's Catholic Church in North Bennington on May 12, 1962.

In earlier years Ted had been employed at various businesses' including St. Johnsbury Trucking and Greenberg's before he became a police officer with the Bennington Police Department, a career that began in July of 1971 until his retirement in August of 1993. He later worked as the facilities director at the Bennington Free Library and also assisted with the Bennington County Sheriff's Department at the Bennington Court House.

Ted was a member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks # 567 and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 307. He loved to ride his John Deere tractor and for many years led the Bennington Battle Day Parade on his motorcycle. He also enjoyed movies, donuts, hot dogs, Chef Boyardee Ravioli and collecting baseball caps. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and the Cleveland Indians.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Joyce Lanoue of Bennington, son Gerald Lanoue of Bennington and daughter in law Linda Schwab Lanoue of Shaftsbury; a sister, Theresa Jolin of Williamstown, MA and two local brother-in -laws, Milton Hattat and Gerald Amadon; in addition, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, Edward Lanoue and eight brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday November 22 with a prayer at 12:30 pm and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 1:00 p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

The burial will follow in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
