Thelma J. Tifft (Metcalfe)

Thelma J. Tifft, 76, a resident of County St. in Bennington died Wednesday December 26, 2018 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

She was born in Hoosick Falls, NY September 15, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Thelma (Elliot) Metcalfe. She received her education in Hoosick Falls and was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School.

She married Edward Tifft on December 31, 1966 at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington. Mr. Tifft died January 10, 2009.

Thelma worked in the food service department at the Mount Anthony Middle School for many years from which she retired.

Thelma's family was her main interest. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing games and spending time with her friends.

Survivors include her children, Wayne Tifft and his wife Kathleen of Woodford, Shirley Harris and her husband Patrick of Shaftsbury, Edward Tifft and his wife Erin of North Carolina, Timothy Tifft (Haley) of Bennington, and Melissa Harrington and her husband Jamie of Riverside, Rhode Island. Her grandchildren, Michael Tifft (Mandy), Dani (Nicholas Delani), Paul (Emily) and Brendan (Kali) Harris, Caleb, Jadyn, Emma, Kiara, Hope, Thomas and Madison Tifft and Abigail and Ella Harrington. Five great grandchildren, three sisters, Charlotte, Bert and Marion and two brothers Robert and Gordon Metcalfe. Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday December 29, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The funeral will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday December 29, at 1:00 p.m.

The burial will follow in the family lot at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, NY.
