Susan L. Niles (Shaughnessy)

Susan L. Niles, 71, a resident of Lincoln Hill Road, White Creek, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY.

Born in Dodge City, Kansas on October 20, 1948, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Margaret (Knights) Shaughnessy. Susan received her early schooling in Hoosick Falls and was a graduate of Northampton High School in Northampton, MA. She later received her Associates Degree in Business from Northampton Community College.

Susan married Ben Niles on August 12, 1967 in Florence, MA. Ben and Sue were married for 40 years until his passing on January 10, 2008.

In earlier years Susan owned and operated the Yardstick, a well-known sewing shop in Bennington. She later was employed in the offices of both Bijur Lubricating and Hoisington Realty before accepting a position as Administrative Assistant at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation where she remained until the time of her retirement.

Susan loved gardening and time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brooke and Kendall Turner and a son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Tracy Niles, all of White Creek; four grandchildren, Tanner and Carsen Williams and Rylie and Sydne Niles; seven siblings and their spouses, April (David) Buxbaum of Hoosick, NY, Dan (Paryse) Shaughnessy of Albany, N.Y, Bill (Pam) Shaughnessy of Cavendish, VT, David (Jude) Shaughnessy of North Bennington, VT, Mike (Sue) Colliano of Petersburgh, NY, Leigh Anne (Jim) Cone of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Patrick Colliano of Clearwater, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Susan was predeceased by a sister, Mary Beth Shaughnessy.

At Susan's request private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.
