Stephen M. Sauer

Stephen "Steve" M. Sauer, 46, a resident of Center Street, Bennington, died Friday, August 10, 2018 at his home.

Born in Bennington on July 4, 1972, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Harrison) Sauer. Steve received his education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School.

In earlier years Steve worked as a housing contractor and later worked in the maintenance department at the Vermont Veterans Home until the time of his illness.

Steve married the former Bonnie Brace on July 4, 2014.

A "jack of all trades" Steve enjoyed riding his side-by-side, and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sauer of Bennington; four children, Darren Ruiz-Sauer of Bennington, Zachary Sauer of Neomar, CA, Tyson Sauer of Bennington and Holly Hastings of White Creek, NY; six siblings, Janet (Paul) Sauer-Yerke of Bennington, Charles Sauer of North Adams, MA, John Sauer of Austin, TX, Susan (Thomas) Bushee of Bennington, Donald (Julie) Sauer of Pitkin, LA and Matthew Sauer of Bennington along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life for Steve Sauer will be held from his home at 38 Center Street, Bennington on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Stephen M. Sauer's memory may be made to the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
