Stephen P. Coyne, 71, a lifelong resident of Bennington died Monday April 11, 2016 at the residence of his daughter and son in law Stefanie and James Boyd in Arlington, VT.
He was born in Bennington, VT March 30, 1945. He was the son of the late William and Eleanor (Matthews) Coyne. He received his education in the Bennington schools.
For many years Steve operated a painting and wall papering business in the area.
Steve was well respected as a volunteer coach in the Bennington area. He coached in the MAYAA basketball for several years, however his passion was coaching girls softball which he did for over 20 years.
Steve also enjoyed horse racing, playing cards with family and friends and fishing. He was a member of the Bennington Eagles Club and a social member of the VFW Post 1332.
Survivors include two daughters and son in law's, Stefanie and James Boyd of Arlington and Angela and Christopher LaFlamme of Wells, VT and a son Preston Scott Coyne of Poultney; nine grandchildren including Samantha Gibson and her husband Derek, Ryan and Michael Boyd, Ian and Camille Coyne, Emily, Rachel and Carly LaFlamme and Cassondra Chapko; two sisters, Helena Powell of Amarillo, Texas and Kathy Brown of Randelette, Oklahoma; four brothers, Ralph "Mouse" Coyne, Edward Coyne and Thomas Coyne all of Bennington and Gregory Coyne of Colorado; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve was pre-deceased by a son, Kenneth Coyne, a sister Patricia Livingston and two brothers, Jack and Milton Coyne.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday April 14, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The Wake Service will be offered Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Stephen P. Coyne may be made to the Mahar and Son Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.
