Shirley Overstreet

April 19, 1945 — March 4, 2025

Shirley Ann Overstreet passed away on March 4, 2025, at Brookdale Fillmore Pond Senior Living Center, Bennington, VT, surrounded by many who loved her, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 19, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA to Edgar G. Overstreet and Ella M. (Oertel) Overstreet. After being raised in Feeding Hills, MA she spent most of her adult years in the Boston, MA area before retiring to Bennington, VT to be closer to relatives. Shirley graduated from the Deaconess Nursing School as a Registered Nurse and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeastern University.

Shirley was a devoted sister, partner, aunt, and friend to many. She was dedicated to her nursing career of over forty years, serving in several hospitals, and as a visiting nurse for the last ten of those years. Shirley made the most of her time outside of work and especially loved the outdoors, frequently visiting parks in Boston and traveling to several national parks as well. Shirley also loved animals: cats and dogs – especially Golden Retrievers. On Sunday afternoons in the fall, she could usually be found watching her favorite sports team, the New England Patriots.

Shirley is survived by her sister Carol “Cari” J. (Overstreet) Wensley of Bennington, VT; brother Gerald “Gerry” E. (Christine) Overstreet of Longmeadow, MA; nieces Laura A. (Timothy) King of Bennington, VT and Diana Ayanna (Siddhu Sudarshan) of Paris, France; nephews William C. (Lindsey) Wensley of Bennington, VT, Daniel J. Overstreet of Chicago, IL, John P. Overstreet (fiancée Aamani Kottamasu) of Brooklyn, NY; seven grandnieces, and one great-grandniece. These and many others will carry her memory forward in love.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Brookdale Fillmore Pond Senior Living Center, the Visiting Nursing Association of Bennington, and many other caregivers for their loving devotion to Shirley in her last weeks.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 3:00PM at Brookdale Fillmore Pond, 300 Village Ln, Bennington, VT.
