Shirley grew up in Rochester and graduated from Monroe High School. She attended the University of Rochester and graduated with a BA in English and a Master's in Education. While at U of R Shirley met Bob, a U of R coed and they were married in 1955.
Outside of her family Shirley's biggest passion was helping other people. She was active with the CCD program, Social Concerns Ministry and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's Parish in Penfield. She was a loving caregiver to both of her parents and many others, as well as a full-time driver taking the kids to all of their activities.
