Shirley H. Carroll, 82 a resident of Petersburgh, NY passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020, following a long illness with her girls beside her at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT. Shirley was a student of the Bennington school system, however, she went back to school in her early 50's to obtain her GED, and passed the first time!
Shirley was employed for thirteen years at Seagrotts in Berlin NY until her retirement in 2002. However, her most loved job was a manager at McDonalds in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She loved her patrons and her daily seniors. She enjoyed ceramic; however, her real love was her children and family, and the family gathering that took place through the year, every year, over the years. Grandchildren remember "Blueberry Porking"
Survivors include three of her children, Kathy Woodward (Tom) of Pownal, Vt., Kelley Greene (William), and Colleen Manchester (Greg), both of Petersburgh, NY and a stepson Keane Carroll of Salem, NY. Sixteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren; her Sister Marion Noyes of Bennington; two brothers, Ralph Leonard Jr. of Pownal, Vt and Nelson (Toby) Leonard of Bennington, Vt., along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shirley was predeceased by four children, Pamela, James, Michael and Maureen, along with a grandson William Quidgeon and two husbands, David Walker in 1974 and William Carroll 1990; six sisters Louise Peacock, Beulah Racicot, Velta Thayer, Beatrice Olin, Barbara Baker, and most recent Eva O'Dell.
Due to the unprecedented times with the COVID-19 virus there will be no public service held. A celebration of her life will take place in the future when the world has healed. A private committal with her girls will take place at the Berlin Community Cemetery.
