Shelby Jay Coon, 22, a resident of North Branch St. in Bennington died unexpectedly Sunday March 4, 2018 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Bennington.
He was born in Bennington, VT November 20, 1995. He was the son of Henry Jay Coon and Charlene (Noe) Coon. He received his education in Bennington and was a 2014 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. In May of 2017 Shelby graduated from Vermont Technical College with a degree in Fire Science.
He was a member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department and was an E.M.T. He took great pride in being a firefighter.
He most recently was employed at Cumberland Farms.
Shelby enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and baseball. He loved his dog "Doc Holiday".
Survivors include his mother and step dad, Charlene Coon and Paul Woodard of Bennington. His father and step mother, Henry Coon and Jodie of Shaftsbury, VT. A brother Justin Jay Coon of Pownal, VT. A step brother, Aaron Thomas. A step sister, Tanga Lee Thomas of Bennington. His maternal grandfather, Charles Noe of Wakefield, MA, his paternal grandmother, Gloria Pailley of Cohoes, NY. An aunt Michelle Noe of Wakefiend, MA, a cousin, Kirsten Noe of Wakefield, MA, a niece Kira Martin of Bennington, two nephews, Devin Martin of Bennington and Justin Jay Coon Jr. of Pownal. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Friday March 9 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Shelby Jay Coon may be to the scholarship in his name the "Shelby Jay Coon Memorial Firefighters Scholarship" for graduating seniors, who are going to firefighter's school through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
