Ruth A. Hogan, 84, a resident of Cardinal Lane in Bennington, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT following a brief illness.
She was born in Troy, NY on August 8, 1932. She was the daughter of the late James and Katherine (Neville) McGuirk.
She received her education in Troy and was a 1951 graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School. Ruth later attended Saint Joseph's Business College in Bennington.
She married William J. Hogan, Jr., at St. Mary's Church in Troy on December 1, 1956. Mr. Hogan died April 14, 1995.
In earlier years, Ruth was employed at Business World in Bennington. She volunteered at Sacred Heart School in Bennington in the Religious Education Dept. for many years and had taught typing at St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington. Ruth enjoyed art and for several years volunteered with the Vermont Arts Exchange in North Bennington.
Her family and grandchildren were her main interest.
Survivors include her children: Michelle Hogan and partner Dave Mattison of Bennington, Jude Hogan Shaughnessy and her husband Dave of North Bennington, Greer Hogan Kobik and her husband Rick of Shaftsbury and a son William P. Hogan and his wife Andrea of Shaftsbury; eight grandchildren; Tod, Lauren, Macaela, Kolbi, Schuyler, Krosbi, Cody and Keira; and eight great grandchildren. Three sisters; Catherine Resnik, and husband Ash, Loretta McGuirk, and Sharon Wagar and her husband Terry, a brother James McGuirk and wife Betty, sister-in-law Diane McGuirk and several nieces, nephew, cousins and dear friends Rosita Sleeman and Sister Maureen Moffitt. She was predeceased by a brother Michael McGuirk, a sister Shirley Zampier and a grandson Asa Kobik.
At Ruth's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
A graveside service will be held at the family lot at St. John's Cemetery in North Bennington on Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 AM.
A reception will follow the service at the Parish Hall at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington.
