RUTH DEWEY OBITUARY
BENNINGTON, VERMONT

Ruth H. Dewey, age 98, of Bennington, VT passed away at home on December 12, 2016. Born in Bennington on March 18, 1918, Ruth was the daughter of the late Chelsea and Edith (Lyons) Harrington.
Ruth attended schools in Bennington and worked at the County National Bank before her marriage to Arthur J. Dewey in 1940.

Ruth was active in civic organizations with particular interests in historic preservation and gardening projects. As a civic leader, Ruth was a trustee, director or officer of many organizations, including the Bennington Museum, The Bennington Historical Society, the Putnam Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary, The Park McCullough House Association, the Plain Dirt Gardeners, the Bennington Garden Club, and the VT Chapter of Colonial Dames of America. Ruth felt very honored when she was elected Vermont's Vice Regent of the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association, (this association owns the home of George Washington). She served on their board for ten years.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband Art, her sister Lois Banulis, her brother Homer Harrington, her-in-laws, John and Elizabeth Litster, and Charles and Alyce Dewey.

Ruth is survived by her three sons: Arthur and his wife Jolene, Charles, Philip and his wife Louise, and three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at the Bennington Centre Cemetery. No calling hours are scheduled.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Museum in care of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
