Rosemarie Ann Van Der Kar

Rosemarie Van Der Kar, 93, of Manchester Center, VT died peacefully Saturday January 25, 2025 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington after a short illness.

Rosemarie was born in Port Washington, NY on August 17, 1931. She was the daughter of Anthony and Rose (Rizzo) D’Agostino. She graduated from Port Washington High School where she was active in gymnastics and field hockey. She was inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame.

Rosemarie worked in the U.S. Navy Special Devices Center where she met her love, Walter L. Van Der Kar Sr. They married on July 23, 1955 and built their home in Trumbull, CT where they raised two sons. Rosemarie also worked as a purchasing agent for Sikorsky Aircraft. Rosemarie and Walter retired to Kissimmee, FL for twenty years and then relocated more recently to Vermont to be closer to family.

Rosemarie was devoted to family and friends, and always asked how everyone was doing. She was a generous person who loved to help family. She enjoyed entertaining and feeding people especially with her Italian cooking. She donated to many causes including St. Jude Children’s Hospital and veterans’ organizations.

Rosemarie enjoyed traveling the world with Walter. Together they volunteered as ushers at the Houston Astros Spring training in Kissimmee.

Rosemarie was preceded in death by her three siblings and her husband Walter L. Van Der Kar, Sr. Survivors include sons Walter L. Van Der Kar, Jr. (Vickie) of Columbus, OH and William H. Van Der Kar (Sarah) of Danby, VT; grandchildren William (Rebecca), Matthew (Hayley) and James (Stefanie) Van Der Kar, Marie (Peter) Van Der Kar Gray; step-grandson Aidan Burrows; and seven grandchildren Finn, Bodhi, Theo, Halina, Sophie, Sam and Susanna.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. If friends and relatives desire, contributions in Rosemarie's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Guestbook condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net.
