Rolande C. Bruneau, 95, a resident of Barney Road in Bennington died Sunday May 8, 2022 at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
She was born in Paris, France September 24, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Leopold Capel and Aimee (Personneaux) Ropert.
She married William A.J. Bruneau July 21, 1945 in Oran, Algeria. Mr. Bruneau died July 12, 1988.
While living in France, Rolande was a school teacher. She also worked as a clerk at the French Army Regiment Headquarters. She moved to the United States on April 8, 1946.
After moving to Bennington, Rolande worked at Fishman's, Polygraphic Company, Bennington Brush, the Union Carbide Corporation and the Alumni Office at Bennington College. She also taught French at Arlington High School and Shaftsbury Elementary and Pownal Elementary. Rolande also volunteered as the librarian at Sacred Heart School and Catamount Elementary. She also volunteered in the collection office at the Bennington Museum.
Survivors include two sons, George Bruneau and his wife Jane of Shaftsbury and Rene Bruneau of Bennington. A daughter Andrea Hoag and her husband Mark of Bennington. Six grandchildren, TJ Lillie, Shawn Lillie, Michelle Bruneau, William "Billy" Bruneau, Dannielle Tangredi and Katherine Bruneau. Three great grandchildren, Nicholas Rayborn, Connor Lillie and Shawn Castiglione. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington on Thursday May 12 at 11:00 a.m.
