Roger E. White, 90, a resident of Niles Road in Bennington died peacefully Wednesday December 20, 2017 at Brookdale Fillmore Pond following a brief illness.
He was born in Bennington, VT February 17, 1927. He was the son of the late Rudd and Mildred (Brown) White. Roger received his education in Bennington and was a 1945 graduate of Bennington High School. During his senior year, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Midway for 1 year.
On July 19, 1947 Roger married Pauline M. LaCroix at the Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.
In earlier years, Roger had been employed by W S Petroleum Dealer and Horst Dairy. For many years, until his retirement in 1981, Roger worked for the U.S. Post Office in Bennington as a rural letter carrier.
Roger enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, fishing and reading. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church, Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion Post #13.
Survivors include his children, Steve White of Arlington, VT, Cindy Libardi of Milford, NH, Dawn Pilato of Honeoye Falls, NY and Mark White of Bennington, VT. Thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Roger was predeceased by his wife Pauline M. White and one brother, Howard White.
The funeral will be held from Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington on Saturday January 6 at 1:00pm with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 1:30pm where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30am until 1:00pm.
