Robert J. Svitak Sr. 86 a resident of Bennington died Friday, October 7, 2016, at Albany Medical Center.
He was born in Bronx, NY March 31, 1930, and was the son of the late William and Catherine Svitak. Bob was a graduate of Old Lyme High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was awarded a commendation for his act of bravery.
Bob married the love of his life Pauline McHugh on September 15, 1956, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Bob was employed by First Vermont Bank in Bennington for 32 years as Vice President. He was proud to assist his community members where he was able to put their needs first.
Bob loved telling his grandchildren stories of his youth. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to share. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time at the casino. Bob kept his love of the ocean and enjoyed returning to the place of his childhood home in Connecticut. He had a positive and caring spirt, and always had a smile to share. But above all else spending time with his family was his first priority.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline of Bennington, three children and their spouses. Daughters Peggy (Mike) Burke of North Clarendon, and Ann (Duane) Peacock of Shaftsbury. Son William (Angela) Svitak of Rutland. Nine grandchildren Braden, Conner and Jensen Burke, Duane Jr. (Marcy), Diane, Brad (James), and Erin Peacock, Kaylee and Marin Svitak, and one great-grand child Mason Peacock. His brother John Svitak of Cambridge NY, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was pre-deceased by his son Robert Svitak Jr., his brother William Svitak and his sister Catherine Derrenbacher.
A private family service will be held through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, VT.
