SHAFTSBURY

Robert Gordon Prentice, 69, a resident of Cleveland Ave, Shaftsbury, died peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Manchester, Connecticut on July 19, 1948, he was the son of the late Harry Walker and Marion (Derby) Prentice. Bob received his education in the Manchester schools and was a 1966 graduate of Manchester High School. Bob enlisted in the U. S. Army after graduating high school and was deployed to Vietnam. Following his discharge Bob went to college in Manchester, N.H. where he attended Manchester College.

Over the next several years Bob worked in Manchester, CT as a banker, car salesman and on several construction projects before accepting a position at Generis Catering driving a coffee truck.

He moved to Williamstown, Ma. to live with his brother and got a position as a bartender at the American Legion Post 90 in Pownal where he met his wife to be, Dolores (Dolly) Kimball

Bob married Dolores "Dolly" Kimball at the Pownal Methodist Church on May 21, 1988. They resided in Pownal until 1994, then moved to Shaftsbury, Vermont.

In 2001 Bob & Dolly founded Woodchucks Wagon Catering, this was his dream job, which they operated until 2016 when they retired.

Bob was a life member of VFW Post 1332 in Bennington and American Legion Post 90 in Pownal. He enjoyed playing pinochle. On Sundays his mother-in-law, Dolores P. Kimball, would come to their home for lunch and to play pinochle.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly Kimball of Shaftsbury; a son, Brian E. Kimball of Lansingburgh, NY; a brother, Ronald (Barbara) Prentice of Eugene, Or; an aunt, Natalie (Neil) Sadlack of Stafford Springs, Ct; a niece, Sara (Aaron) Manela of Cleveland, Oh. Also numerous cousins.

Bob was predeceased by a brother, William Prentice in 1953 and his favorite cousin, David Scott.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Robert Prentice will be held from All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to his wife, Dolly Kimball, to help offset funeral costs though the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
