Robert Lloyd Michaels, 84, a lifetime resident of Berlin, New York, passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2024 at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, Vermont following a long illness. Born on June 14th, 1939 in Petersburg, New York, Robert was the son of the late Clarence L. Michaels and Eleanor Jones. Robert was raised, and also received his early education in Berlin. He would later graduate from Berlin High School. Following his graduation, Robert entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for three years from 1957 and 1960. He remembered his time there fondly, and even returned to Germany for vacation years later. After his return from Germany, Robert began working for the Ford Motor Company as a machinist in Green Island, New York. He worked for General Dynamics in Schenectady, New York as a machinist, and retired from the Watervliet Arsenal. In his retirement, he began a part-time job as a bus driver for the Berlin School District. Robert was also very active with the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin as a lay minister. Robert had many interests and hobbies; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, woodworking, watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog - Jockey, as well as spending time with his friends and family. Robert is survived by his 13 children: Carroll Hoard (Doug), Robert Michaels (Elise), Kevin Michaels (Janet), Debbie Downs, Stephen Michaels (Robin), Jacqueline Pereira (Martin), April Michaels (Tom), Faith Watrous (JR), Laura Fuller (Kevin), Erin Sawyer (Phil), Scott Michaels, Jonathan Michaels (Lauren),Joshua Michaels (Lindsey). His 35 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother William (Bill) and many nieces and nephews. Robert is predeceased by a brother, Gary, and a sister, Carole. A graveside service will take place for Robert at the Berlin Community Cemetery located in Berlin, NY on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024 at 10:00am.
