Robert T. Leary Sr.

September 5, 1936 — July 22, 2019

Robert T. Leary, Sr. age 82 died on July 22, at his home in Manchester. He was born on August 5, 1936 and was the son of the late Paul A. and Madeline Zullo Leary He was brought up in Manchester and attended local schools. Robert started at a young age working on automobiles and worked for several local garages. His last employment was at Bourns Tire / Auto from where he retired after 30 years. He loved to be outside fishing, hunting, trapping, snow shoeing, and enjoying at that Vermont has to offer.

You could find him going to Auctions, Flea Markets, Tag Sales, buying and selling, mostly buying. The last few years he spent going to Bingo every Sunday in Wells, Vermont. In 1967 he married the former Katherine McEckron, also know as Kitty. Together they raised eight children.

Robert is survived by his son Robert T. Leary, Jr. and his wife Ann (Dwyer) Leary, his grandsons: Colby Leary and Jacob Leary. His step-children: Jackie Dooley, (Perry) Ken Dooley, Kevin Dooley, Scott Dooley, Darcy Dooley, Brett Dooley, and Kurt Williams. He leaves one brother Daniel Leary, He was predeceased by his father, mother, wife: Katherine (Kitty) Leary, whom he loved very much, sisters: Katie Ziegenhagen, and June Gutbier, He will be missed by many family and friends.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Bonnet Street in Manchester Center, on Tuesday afternoon, July 30, from 4PM until 6:30PM. A prayer service will be held at 6:PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Dorset Fire Department through the office of Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
