Robert L. Holmes (Holmes)

September 6, 1936 — September 8, 2018

Robert L. Holmes, 82, of Shaftsbury, VT, died unexpectedly but peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on September 8, 2018 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Moen), his children Jennifer Holmes Enright and her husband Peter of Point Pleasant, NJ, Timothy Holmes and his wife Jeanmarie of Hudson, NH and Debbie Perrine of Barnegat, NJ; nine grandchildren Jack, Grace and Paige Enright, Samantha White and Mackenzie and Jared Holmes, Andrew Holmes and Ayden and Addison Fillman, and two great grandchildren, Troy Mitchell and Beckham Croft.
He was pre-deceased by his son, Andrew S. Holmes, his sister, Ruth Megill, and his brother, Kenneth Holmes.
Born in Neptune City, NJ, to the late Kenneth and Estelle (Schlesinger) Holmes, Bob was a graduate of Manasquan High School, received a Bachelor's Degree from Trenton State College and a Master's Degree from Rider College, all located in NJ.
Bob and Nancy lived and raised their family in Point Pleasant, NJ where he helped to create the Point Pleasant First Aid and served as its charter president.
During his 34-year career as a high school teacher and administrator, Bob was a member of the initial faculties for both Brick Township High School and Point Pleasant Borough High School.
Upon retiring from Brick High School in 1992, Bob and Nancy followed their dream and moved to Vermont. Bob built a workshop on his property where he spent countless hours enjoying his passion for building cabinets and woodcrafts. Together they formed "Holmes'craft", a country woodworking and crafts shoppe. Bob also worked at the Shaftsbury and North Bennington branches of the United States Postal Service and for Carbone Auto.
Civic responsibility and community service were very important to Bob. As he fully integrated into his new hometown, he prepared Shaftsbury's annual town report and served as an auditor for many years. He was also a volunteer election worker at the Shaftsbury polls during numerous election cycles, and was considered a vital member of the team.
For the last five years, Bob has volunteered, nearly every weekday, with Green Mountain Express, providing transportation to medical appointments and other necessities for people in need. He completed his final ride on September 7.
