POWNAL- Robert Edward Caron Sr., 74, a resident of Pownal, VT, passed away on January 18th, 2024, at 3:15 pm at the home of his daughter Mindy Jo, surrounded by those who cared. He was born in Bennington, VT, on June 28th,1949, to the late Albert Caron and Mildred Mears. Bob was in the United States Army and was stationed at Phu Bai in Vietnam. He served from 1969 to 1971 and was honorably discharged, receiving a Bronze Star for his service. He was a true patriot. Bob was a jack of all trades, specializing in plumbing, which he learned from his dad as a youngster. He was known for working as a mason and carpenter, also. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Bob was always keeping himself busy. Bob was a man who stepped up and took care of his responsibilities. He always made sure his children and wife had everything they needed. No one ever went without or to bed hungry. Even taking care of some that strayed in along the way. He was a true provider for his family, Bob is survived by his children; Mindy Jo Harrington, Daniel Caron Austin McCallister, all of Bennington, VT, and Andrea Cross (Luke), of Kentucky. He is also survived by his siblings, Janet Murray, Ronald Caron, Nancy Slade, Rita Houran, and Sandy Brown. Bob has 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. His special caregivers include Brittany Thomas, Wayne Poirier & Tammy Berard. He was preceded by his wife, Sharon A. LaMere 2003, his son, BJ Caron 2022, and two brothers, Richard Caron, and David Caron. A private graveside service for Bob will be held at the convenience of his family he will be buried with his wife at the White Chapel Cemetery on Chapel Road in Bennington, VT. Memorial contributions in honor of Bob may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
