Robert J. Blakey Jr.

August 20, 1959 — August 8, 2022

Robert (Bob) James Blakey Jr passed away peacefully, on Monday, August 8th, 2022 surrounded by his family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Robert was born on August 20th, 1959 in Pittsfield, MA to Robert J Blakey Sr. and Dolores Bergeron. Robert was a native to North Petersburg, NY where he spent time fishing, hiking, and looking for Native American artifacts. Robert graduated from Hoosick Falls Central in 1977 where he was a triple athlete for football, wrestling, and baseball.

He married Shelley Oldham on September 19th, 1987. They settled in North Bennington, VT where they raised their children, Elizabeth and Kaittie. Robert helped raise his three grandsons, who he loved very much. He later was connected with his son, Jeremy, and spent his last months making up for lost time. Robert shared a special bond with his niece, Amanda (Lockrow) LeClare, and her family, and often referred to her as his "first daughter". His children and grandchildren always knew how proud Robert was of them, no matter how big or small the accomplishment.

Robert was a familiar face to all and for 29 years was a beverage salesman for Farrell Distributing. Robert always knew how to make light of any situation with his humor and kind heart. He would always make sure everyone around him was as happy as he was. His family and friends will remember him for his visits in his garage, where he has left many memories, and his many nicknames he gave people with live on forever. His family likes to think that he is taking his best friend and dog, Vino Jackson, for a hike in Heaven.

Robert leaves behind his wife, Shelley (Oldham) Blakey, his children Jeremy Blakey-Mentiply, Elizabeth (Jared) Dicranian, and Kaittie (Trevor) Murray, along with his beloved grandsons Mason James, Kamden Edward, and Blake Robert. Robert also leaves his siblings Charles Blakey, Richard (Joannie) Blakey, and Lisa Blakey, his mother-in-law, Janice Oldham as well as many other family and friends.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Robert Sr & Delores Blakey, his sister Donna and brother-in-law Gary Lockrow, their son Gary Lockrow, his father-in-law Richard H Oldham, and sister-in-laws Wanda (Oldham) Bogardus and Debra Richey.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 11th, at 6PM at the Park McCullough Barn in North Bennington. Friends may call at the Park McCullough Barn on Thursday from 4PM until the time of service at 6PM. Please wear Robert's favorite color, blue, to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Finley Scanlon, who is continuing to fight her battle with cancer, through the office of the E.P. Mahar Funeral Home 628 Main Street Bennington, VT 05201.
