Richard "Dick" Robert Purdy, 80 passed away September 24 at his son's home in Pownal Vermont.
Dick is survived by his son James Keus to whom he was greatly devoted; Three sisters Dale Purdy Seiferling and her husband Bryan, Shelley Purdy, and Tracy Purdy Martin and her husband Bill; Three grandchildren, Dana Keus, James Keus Jr, and Casey Keus; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his long-time friend and companion Vivian Keus, parents, Robert and Jean (Knights) Purdy, and brother Barry Purdy.
Born in Bennington on February 12 1941, Dick attended Bennington schools and graduated from Benhi in 1959. He worked for years in the logging industry and as a wood craftsman. His first love was always the woods, especially Woodford and Somerset area. Whether hiking, trapping, hunting or fishing he found his pleasure and solitude when in his beloved Vermont woods. He always had wonderful stories to share with his family and friends. A craftsman at heart he loved to create everything from his willow whistles to his handmade chairs, Those wonderful pieces of furniture can be found on many a porch. If you find a "Y" carved in the front, "eureka!" You know you have one of his!
Dick's family invites his friends to an informal gathering at Prospect Mountain Ski Area in Woodford on October 16 12-3 to celebrate his life! Bring your stories and pictures to share.
