Rhoda Jean Welch Mattison Morton age 75, a resident of Chapel Road died on Monday, September 5, 2016 following a short illness.
Born in Bennington, April 21, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Myles John and Ruth Mary (Harrington) Welch. Rhoda received her education in Bennington and graduated from Albany Business College.
In earlier years, Rhoda was employed as the executive secretary at First Vermont Bank and later as an administrative assistant at Feiden & Greenberg, CPA's in Bennington. At the time of her retirement, Rhoda was employed as a case manager for Vermont Associates.
Rhoda was first married to Gilbert Mattison, Jr. and later to Robert P. Morton, now deceased.
Her main interest was spending time with her children and grandchildren and the Sunday dinner "get togethers".
For over twenty years Rhoda operated the Dance Ranch Cloggers in the Bennington area. She later danced with the Wild Country Cloggers directed by her son, John. She enjoyed Square Dancing and calling Square Dances. She loved playing music, especially the piano and the ukelele and singing.
In earlier years, she was an avid softball player and bowler, having won First Place Doubles in a Tri-State Tournament.
Survivors include four children; Brenda Mattison of Bennington, Bud G. Mattison and his wife Gabrielle of Hoosick Falls, NY, Richard Mattison and his wife Merri of Eagle Bridge, NY and John Morton and his wife Shannon of Bennington. She leaves thirteen grandchildren; Myles Mattison, Laurie Cluett, Brandon Mattison, Tracey Mattison, Ellen Mattison, Shaun Morton, Lucas Mattison, Ethan Mattison, Owen Morton, Isaiah Mattison, Braeden Mattison, Alexander Cluett and Evangeline Cluett; two brothers; Kenneth Myles Welch and Robert Allen Welch, both of Bennington; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rhoda was predeceased by two children; Christine Marie Mattison and Steven Robert Mattison.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Rhoda Morton will be held from the Missionary Alliance Church, Crescent Blvd in Bennington on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
Interment will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.
Friends may call at the Missionary Alliance Church on Saturday, from 11:0AM until the time of the service.
