BENNINGTON
Raymond Francis Simpson Sr., 75, a resident of Applegate Drive, Bennington, died peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware July 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Helen (Hogan) Simpson. He received his education in the Wilmington schools.
Ray served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
In earlier years Ray was employed as a prison guard in Wilmington. After moving to the Bennington area he worked in the construction field prior to his retirement.
Ray was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and was also a collector of guns and knives.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Kevin Jarvis of Bennington; three sons, Jay Simpson of Bennington and Raymond Simpson Jr and John Souder, both of Delaware; ten grandchildren and two great-grandsons; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Kenneth Held of Pownal; a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Eileen Simpson of Delaware and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ray was predeceased by a brother, Charles Simpson.
Committal services with military honors will be held at the Vermont War Veterans Cemetery at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington at a time to be announced in the Spring.
Should friends desire memorial contributions in Raymond F. Simpson's memory may be made to the Patient Resource Fund at the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center.
